## Who is this plan for?

Dumbbells and an adjustable bench are all you need to train like a bodybuilder at home. This plan takes the one-muscle-a-day split and builds it entirely around dumbbells, which happen to be ideal for intensity techniques: a drop set is just putting one pair down and picking up a lighter one.

Each session starts with the heaviest press, row or squat variation for the day, then works through angles and isolation moves. One exercise per session ends with a set to failure, the final isolation exercise gets a drop set, and arm day uses two biceps/triceps supersets to get a lot done in little time.

Because the heaviest dumbbells you own will eventually cap how much load you can use, progression here means reps first: work every set up to the top of its range, then add weight if you can, or add a set, or slow the lowering to three seconds.

Run it on five consecutive days with two days off, or spread it with a rest day after legs. A lighter week every 5-6 weeks keeps your joints happy.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many days a week is the Dumbbell Bro Split 5-Day One Muscle a Day plan, and how long are the workouts?

The Dumbbell Bro Split 5-Day One Muscle a Day plan is 5 days a week, with sessions of about 55 minutes, over 8 weeks.

### Is the Dumbbell Bro Split 5-Day One Muscle a Day plan good for beginners?

The Dumbbell Bro Split 5-Day One Muscle a Day plan is an advanced plan for experienced lifters. If you are new to training, start with a beginner plan first.

### Is the Dumbbell Bro Split 5-Day One Muscle a Day plan free?

Yes. The full plan is free to read here and to follow in the StayActive app, with no subscription and no ads.

### Can you build serious muscle with just dumbbells?

Yes. Muscle responds to hard sets taken close to failure, and dumbbells allow a full range of motion on almost every movement. When the heaviest pair gets easy, slower reps, pauses and drop sets keep the stimulus high.

### What does "last set to failure" mean?

On that exercise, do your normal sets, then on the final set keep going until you cannot complete another rep with good form. It only appears on machine, cable and isolation work, where failing a rep is safe. Never take heavy squats, deadlifts or bench presses to failure.

### How do drop sets work in the app?

When you finish the last set of an exercise marked "Drop set", the tracker adds a drop: reduce the weight by about 25% and keep going straight away with no rest. Log the drop like any other set.

### What dumbbells do I need?

Adjustable dumbbells or a range of pairs, plus an adjustable bench. For drop sets, have the next pair down ready before your last set.

## Safety notes

Get heavy dumbbells into position safely: kick them up from your knees for presses and set them down rather than dropping them sideways. Keep deadlifts and heavy rows one to two reps short of failure. Drop sets need a lighter pair within reach before you start. Take a lighter week every 5-6 weeks.
