Yes. Muscle responds to tension and progressive overload, not to the shape of the implement providing it. Dumbbells cover every movement pattern — press, row, squat, hinge, carry — and their independent loading actually fixes side-to-side imbalances that barbells hide. With adjustable dumbbells, a corner of a room supports years of progression.
Dumbbell jumps between weights are bigger than barbell plates, so these programs progress through rep ranges first, then load — and use unilateral variations and tempo when the next dumbbell is out of reach. Each plan’s progression is built in; log your sets in the app and it recommends the next step automatically.
For beginners, a pair of adjustable dumbbells covering roughly 5–25 kg (10–50 lb) handles every plan below. Fixed pairs work too — you’ll simply progress through rep ranges before moving up a weight.
For muscle growth and general strength, dumbbells are enough. Barbells only become necessary for maximal-strength goals like powerlifting. Several plans below combine dumbbells with a bench for more exercise variety.
Yes — that’s their point. Every dumbbell plan below works in a home setting; plans that also use a bench or other extras say so in their equipment list.
